HISTORY

Westfalenbank AG opened its doors to the public on 1st July 1921. The founders - a syndicate of the mining companies, Bergbau AG Lothringen and Essener Steinkohlebergwerke, as well as the engineering company Maschinenbau Henschel - knew what the market was lacking: a financial institution that would solely serve the interests of the regional German market of Westphalia, a specialised, regional stronghold.

Following great success but also painful setbacks, Westfalenbank was acquired by Bavaria’s Bayerische Hypo- und Wechselbank in 1971, which in turn merged with Bayerische Vereinsbank in 1998 to become HypoVereinsbank (HVB). HVB was then acquired by the Italian bank UniCredit in 2006.

On 26 October 2006, the US Crown Group acquired Westfalenbank from HVB with the intention of turning Westfalenbank with its reputation, history and experience into a leading servicing bank. The bank’s name was changed to Crown Westfalen Bank AG and it was placed at the heart of Crown’s servicing activities. Crown Westfalen Group offers real estate and credit services in Germany, the United Kingdom, Belgium and the United States.
